Olympus Infinity Twin 35mm film camera (serial 1700980)
The Olympus Infinity Twin is a classic late 1980s 35mm point-and-shoot two fixed lenses (a wide 35mm/F3.6 with 3 elements/3 groups and a moderate telephoto 70mm/F6.3 with 5 elements/5 groups) that you can toggle between by clicking a button. This camera was called the 'AF-1 Twin' in some countries.
Here's how it was reviewed in the March 1988 issue of Popular Photography:
"How do you get 35mm wide-angle and 70mm tele lenses into a "superbly compact," weatherproof point-and-shoot 35? Olympus does it with a "unique bi-axial optical system” -in other words, with mirrors (see diagram). It may not be obvious, but both the front-element-focusing 70mm f/6.3 tele and the unit-focusing 35mm f/3.5 wide-angle mounted below it have separate, inter-lens, programmed electronic shutters that fire simultaneously for every exposure. The position of the bottom mirror (it's controlled by the focal-length selector) determines which lens gets to take the picture. The tele has an aspheric element in its rear optical group. As befits a leading-edge design, the Infinity Twin's sleek, pocketable body contains all modern conveniences that include autoloading, autorewind, continuous wind from 1.5 to 4 frames per second autoexposure, DX from ISO 50 to 3200, LCD frame counter, one- or two-shot electronic self-timer, and a bright frame finder with focus and flash-ready LEDs.Its 16-step IR autofocus system gets down to 2½ feet, and the built-in flash comes on when needed, recycling in a claimed 3 seconds in single-shot mode, 1 second (at lower output) in continuous mode. The Twin is lithium-powered and "'weatherproof to JIS grade 4, which means it's splashable but not submersible."
This camera requires two CR123 batteries (available as an option).
Condition notes
The camera is in very good working condition but shows some cosmetic wear on its body, most notably the silkscreened lettering is quite worn off (see photos); this is purely a cosmetic blemish as the sliding cover protected the lens. We verified the camera's film plane focus on an autocollimator (it shows excellent sharpness at both wide and telephoto settings).
