Minolta Maxxum 4 35mm film SLR w/ 28-80mm lens (serial 39314484)
Note: There is some minor discoloration in the viewfinder of this camera (common with this era of Minolta SLRs). It's hard to photograph but we'd describe it as a yellow tint on the corners. It doesn't affect photos in any way.
The Minolta Maxxum 4 is a very compact 35mm film SLR from 2002. It includes a Minolta AF 28-80 f3.5-5.6 zoom lens.
American Photo review
The Maxxum 4 earned an 'Editor's Choice' in the July/August 2002 issue of American Photo. Here's the write-up:
In its tiny size and control configuration, this new model looks nearly the same as the Maxxum 5. But the Maxxum 4 is lighter and even less expensive, thanks to its polycarbonate lens mount (the Maxxum 5's is metal.) As we've said before, that's not a big compromise, nor is the reduction of its top shutter speed from 1/4,000 to 1/2,000 second. (Sync speed drops just a half step, from 1/125 second to 1/90.) Framing rate is lower too, at 1.7 fps instead of three; there's no depth-of-field preview; and the viewfinder focus points themselves don't light up to show you which one is active.
(You have to refer to a display at the bottom of the frame.) But unlike lesser entry-level SLRs, the Maxxum 4 has a three-point AF system with two vertical arrays for better locking onto horizontal lines. It has three-shot autobracketing. It lets you tweak film speed manually if you want to, and use autoexposure compensation if you don't. And the Maxxum 4 can even operate Minolta flash units wirelessly.
Battery info
This camera requires two CR2 lithium batteries (available as an add-on).
Condition notes
The camera was tested with a shutter analyzer and calibrated light source and all shutter speeds and auto exposure settings are working with very good accuracy. The camera was tested with a battery and film installed (the film was not developed) and all functions are working correctly. The measured exposure accuracy is excellent and consistent from EV 5 to EV 16. As mentioned above there is minor discoloration in the viewfinder due to tarnish on the pentamirror but this does not affect photos. The camera and lens are in good cosmetic condition (see photos).
