The circa-1999 Minolta Maxxum QTsi is one of the lightest and easiest-to-use 35mm film SLRs that the company ever made. Minolta clearly went out of their way to make a versatile and foolproof autofocus film camera for people with more important things to do than studying instruction manuals. The camera has a default 'fully auto' mode plus five dedicated modes for common photographic situations (portrait; landscape/scenery; close-up; sports/action; nighttime). It also has a built-in pop-up flash.

The included lens is a Minolta AF 35-80mm f4-5.6 zoom. This camera requires two CR2 batteries (available as an option).

Popular Photography review

From the November 1999 issue of Popular Photography:

The Minolta Maxxum QTsi (Cutesy for long, we guess) is the camera that many of us have been begging camera makers to produce for years. No, not a camera for most of us but a small, light interchangeable-lens point-and-shoot AF SLR that can be used successfully by all those snapshooters who want the major advantages of an AF SLR but go psycho when they see the likes of shutter speeds, aperture markings, or numerals of any kind except in a frame counter. There's nothing in the finder but central autofocus area brackets plus a huge green focus-OK (or not OK) circle and a flash signal at the left side of the finder. In poor ambient light or backlit scenes, the flash pops up automatically when needed. The Cutesy has built-in provision for wireless TTL control of off-camera accessory flash, regular non-shiftable program mode, plus pushbuttons for portrait, scenic, closeup, action, and night-portrait subject modes. At 18 ounces with the new 35-80mm Maxxum f/4-5.6 lens focusing to 15 inches (1:4 magnification at 80mm), plus two CR2 lithium batteries, the Cutesy may be the lightest (and least expensive) AF SLR extant. Our preproduction sample QTsi handled as easily as any snapshooter could wish.

Battery info

This camera requires two CR2 lithium batteries (available as an option).

Condition notes

The camera was tested with a shutter analyzer and calibrated light source and its auto exposure was confirmed to be working with very good accuracy. The camera was tested with a battery and film installed (the film was not developed) and all functions are working correctly.
