The high-end Nikon F90 (called the N90 in the United States) 35mm SLR was released in 1992 and represented a big jump in capability for the F-mount series. Its autofocus performance was noticeably better than previous models (including the then-flagship F4). The F90/N90 was replaced by the subtly improved F90X/N90S in 1994 (with further tweaks to autofocus and finer shutter speed gradations being the most noteworthy changes).

The Nikon Chronicle described the F90's major advances:

"High-precision AF with wide focus area providing a wide range of detection of focus points
3D-8 segments Matrix Metering incorporated to provide optimum exposure (when used with D type lens)
The world's first 3D Multi-Sensor Balanced Full-Flash Control possible with 5-segments sensor (when used with D type lens and Speedlight SB-25)"

The included lens is a sharp AF Nikkor 50mm f1.8.

We thoroughly enjoyed testing this camera and lens, we found its controls intuitive and we were very pleased with the results we got from it. It is, however, a somewhat hefty camera (the body weighs 775 grams without batteries or lens).

This camera requires 4 AA batteries (not included). Rechargeable batteries can be used.

Condition notes

We film-tested this camera and it delivered sharp, correctly exposed photos. In addition, we verified its shutter speeds and exposure accuracy. The camera and lens are in very good cosmetic condition except, as is almost always the case this model, the rubberized coating on the back door needed to be cleaned off (see photos). This doesn't affect fucntionality (except for the fact that some of the text explaining mode icons is no longer legible; all this information is available in the user manual).
